Our Story

Whilst Vellore was once a small town, home to a fort and a large population of lower caste communities, it has fast expanded over the last ten years to blossom into a centre of industry.

However, whilst many are profiting from this, there is a population of people living below the poverty line, who remain untouched by the development that is happening around them. These are the women and children who live on the pavements of Vellore. They are the people who were never educated, and never given a chance to become a functioning part of the economic system. They are people who were born on the pavements, and continue to live on the streets with their families, as will their children’s children.

It is these people that we reach out to at Seb’s Projects India through the ‘Goodbye to Paper’ program, which was named by these people themselves, as a program that will help them to make the definite U-Turn they want in their lives from their current reality as rag pickers. We are targeting 10 women and their families, which includes approximately 40 children, to help them make a new start; to lead a dignified life.
